Inspired by the work of the historian Stephen E. Ambrose, the series tells the story of soldiers of Easy Company , the 506th parachute infantry regiment , the U.S. 101st Airborne Division (whose members are known as the "Screaming Eagles" or "Eagles howler") its beginnings until the end of World War II in 1945 .
At first, the recruits know nothing about airborne units and are very hard entrained. Easy Company is the most driven of all the companies of the regiment. First Lieutenant Herbert M. Sobel wants his company to be well and makes the lives of his men as hard as possible. Its commander, First Lieutenant Richard D. Winters freshly promoted, is best seen by men and shows improved tactical skills. Sobel is still promoted to captain by Colonel Sink, but the latter, after the near-mutiny NCOs Sobel, is finally forced to allocate a school Sobel parachute for personal non-combatants, in England .
On the eve of 6 June 1944 , the Easy parachuted over the Normandy . The drops are a disaster, the dropzone (areas of hops) are missed and the whole company was scattered in the Cotentin . In addition, Lieutenant Meehan, who controls the company was killed in an explosion at its C-47 . The command of the company is therefore up to the Lieutenant Winters.
Then follows the company across Europe , in Normandy for taking the guns of the manor of Brecourt then Carentan for the capture of the city, in Eindhoven in the Netherlands and then in Nuenen (birthplace of Van Gogh Webster) and during Operation Market Garden , Forest Ardennes at Bastogne and Foy , and finally the release of a concentration camp near Landsberg am Lech . Then VE day in Berchtesgaden for taking the "eagle's nest" of Hitler , the last bastion of the Third Reich .
