O na learned recently in April 2010 for the release of Peter Jackson's trilogy, The Lord of the Rings. These editions will not be sold individually, but a box set featuring the entire saga is expected. Only versions movie (called 'short') will be presented at first. The publisher, Warner will offer movies in 1080p (superb in every respect, according to Peter Jackson in person), but opt for the audio codec Dolby True HD 5.1. In other words, and following the habits of the editor, who has never "failed" in this field there (in addition to its choice of codec DTS-HD Master Audio on some titles), will propose these mixes with depth of 16 bit signal and a data transfer rate of close to 1400 kbps, which means very, very low ... so the Exit 20 Bit DVD, and exit the virtues of encodings (DVD still) in 6.1 EX or ES format mix of films in theaters ...
To point out that this situation only affects the area A (viewable area B) of the trilogy. On our publishing area B, in theory, Metropolitan should get the rights to video operations, and should (always take with a grain of salt) offer DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 and VF VO. No word on his current release date, or confirmation of specifications.
