SYNOPSIS

M oscow in the early 80s, during the Cold War. Sergei Grigoriev, a KGB colonel disappointed the regime of his country, decides to bring down the system. He makes contact with a young French engineer in Moscow, Pierre Froment. The highly confidential information he gave him not long interest western secret services. Mitterrand himself was notified and decides to inform President Reagan: a huge spy network allows the Soviets to know everything about scientific research, industrial and military in the West! The Farewell recounts events that occurred in 1983, in the midst of the Cold War, when a KGB colonel has provided vital information to François Mitterrand, who won the confidence of Ronald Reagan. Described by him as "one of the biggest espionage cases of the twentieth century", the event helped to weaken the Soviet empire and in the long term, to end the conflict.
